TRAINING PROGRAM OUTLINE

This Training Program in ultrasound cattle pregnancy testing is designed for individuals looking to up-skill within their current role or expand their expertise in the agriculture industry. Whether you are employed in a livestock operation, veterinary practice, or related agribusiness, this course provides the practical knowledge and technical skills needed to confidently perform pregnancy testing using ultrasound technology in cattle.

Safe work practices and animal welfare

Reproductive anatomy and physiology

Accurate determination of foetal aging and the empty uterus

An introduction to gender sexing and abnormalities

Manual pregnancy testing theory

Post PT management

 

This Training Program includes the nationally recognised Unit of Competency - AHCLSK339 Pregnancy Test Livestock

Participants will be required to complete assessment tasks to demonstrate competency.

Upon successful completion, students will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency AHCLSK339 - Pregnancy Test Livestock, providing formal recognition of the skills gained and adding value to your business or place of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be 16years+ 

  • This industry involves working outdoors and handling livestock in a variety of conditions. Students should be physically fit and have some previous experience with livestock.

  • Practical training is conducted throughout Australia therefore students must arrange their own transport and accommodation (if required) to these sessions.

  • Students require access to a computer/laptop with internet access for the online learning and induction. Mobile phones are not suitable.

  • The induction session will be done via Microsoft Teams so they require a working speaker and microphone on their computer/laptop.

  • Students are required to provide clean rubber boots and clothing suitable for outdoor weather conditions for the practical sessions.

  • All other learning resources are supplied.

  • Students do not need to own an ultrasound unit.

  • Students need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you do not have one - you can apply HERE.

  • Please complete your own enrolment form.
    To meet ASQA requirements, each student must complete and sign their own enrolment form. This ensures you receive all the information about your course, provide your own personal details, complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questions, and confirm the declarations yourself.
    If you need help using the online form, we're happy to assist – but the answers and declarations must come from you.

DURATION

  • This Training Program takes approx. 3 weeks in total - part time.

  • This includes: approx. 1 hour online induction webinar and 2 weeks is allowed for self-paced online learning including Assessment Task 1 to be completed prior to the Practical Training sessions

  • Then engage in research and self directed learning to consolidate understanding and prepare for practical training

  • 2 days face to face, practical training and Assessment 2.

CAREER AND STUDY PATHWAYS

  • Graduates may be eligible to work as a Pregnancy Testing Technician (Cattle) or in other roles within the cattle industry.

  • Additionally, certain domestic and export market programs, including some live export supply chains, may require operators to hold this accredited unit of competency as evidence of formal training and competency before undertaking pregnancy testing of livestock intended for those markets.

  • NOTE: Regulatory requirements apply in some jurisdictions. Students are advised to check with the relevant State or Territory regulatory authority.

DELIVERY

  • This program is delivered through a blended learning model, combining online theory and face-to-face practical training.

  • Participants will complete the online induction, learning content, and assessments prior to attending the practical component, ensuring they have the foundational knowledge required.

  • The face-to-face training is conducted on-property, where participants engage in supervised, hands-on practical application using industry-standard equipment and livestock handling systems.

  • This approach ensures a balance between flexible learning and real-world skill development aligned with current industry practices.

  • Student numbers are kept at 6 per training program to ensure high practical, hands on experience and to support best practice animal welfare and ethical standards when working with cattle during training.

    • GROUP 11 = Induction/Start Date: 16th November, Practical Sessions - 3rd & 4th December 2026 - ECHUCA VIC

PLEASE NOTE: the start date for each Training Program is the date of the Online Induction Session. The Practical Sessions are approx. 2 x weeks after the Induction Session. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE PRACTICAL SESSION DATES prior to enrolling.

  • Training is delivered across premium, industry-relevant locations to ensure participants gain exposure to a range of livestock operations and high-quality facilities.

  • We currently have 3 locations approved by Animal Ethics - Charters Towers QLD, Echuca VIC and Colinton QLD.

  • Training dates are scheduled throughout the year to align with seasonal operations and demand.

  • New training dates and locations are added regularly as they are approved and confirmed.

  • Due to the practical nature of our livestock training programs, each one requires careful planning, venue and livestock coordination, and Animal Ethics approval before it can be scheduled.

  • Specific dates for each location are released periodically and can be accessed via Catagra Group Training or upon enquiry, allowing participants to select the most suitable time and location for their training needs.

  • RPL is not applicable to this program as there is only 1 x unit of competency

  • Credit Transfer does not apply for this Training Program as it only has 1 x unit of Competency

COST, REFUND & CANCELLATION

  • Total Training Program fee is $2,600 

  • This fee covers training and assessment for the nationally recognised units of competency listed in this Information Sheet.

  • Catagra Group Training Pty Ltd applies a staged payment approach in accordance with the Standards for RTOs 2025.

  • An initial invoice of $1,500 will be issued upon acceptance of enrolment and must be paid prior to commencement of training

  • A second invoice for the remaining balance will be issued after training has commenced and prior to practical training sessions

  • Commencement of training is defined as the point at which the learner is granted access to learning materials, online systems, or participates in any training or assessment activity.

  • Catagra Group Training Pty Ltd does not require any payment prior to acceptance into the training product.
